ESTABLISHING AND PROTECTING WILDLIFE CORRIDORS

The Bonneville County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) has long been a proponent of establishing wildlife corridors.  When Harriman State Park was being planned in the 1980s, the BCSA supported establishing the wildlife corridors that permitted elk to migrate from Montana through national forest and Idaho state lands to winter sanctuary in the Park.

Wildlife mortality from vehicle collisions is an issue that organizations such as the BCSA and the Idaho Wildlife Association (IWF) are just undertaking to resolve.  This is an IWF project that primarily addresses the loss of deer and elk from collision with vehicles.  The initial effort will focus on reducing mortality in the interface zone between urban areas and deer and elk habitat in the area east of Boise to roughly the Arrowhead Dam.

Depending on the success of this initial effort, the IWF will begin to address other areas of the state where there are elevated instances of wildlife-vehicle mortality.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs strongly supports the efforts of the IWF, the Idaho Fish and Game Department, and State and Federal Land management agencies in establishing wildlife corridors to reduce wildlife mortality throughout the State of Idaho.
