CAUCUSES TO PROTECT WILDLIFE HABITAT
In Idaho the protection of natural resources and wildlife habitat often
is ignored by some state agencies. To prevent this from
happening, all lovers of the outdoors, including those devoted to the
sports of angling and hunting, need to have a strong and unified voice
on legislation and policy affecting their interests.
To do this, they should form a caucus, as is occurring in
other states and on the national level. It should deal with
legislation affecting the outdoors at both the state and national
level.
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs supports the
establishment of caucuses in Idaho and other states, if needed, which
will:
-- lobby for appropriate legislation affecting
the
outdoors, including sportsmen and sportswomen;
-- strongly oppose developments or other activities on wild
lands that would adversely affect wildlife and wildlife habitat, or
fisheries and aquatic habitats in Idaho and elsewhere;
-- oppose groups that tend to ignore conservation of natural
resources (including some state agencies).
It also specifically supports the efforts of the Bonneville County
Sportsmen’s Association, the Idaho Wildlife Association and other
conservation organizations, the Idaho Fish and Game Department, and
State and Federal Land management agencies in establishing a
Sportsmen's Caucus in the State of Idaho.
