SUPPORT A WINTER WONDERLAND IN WASHOE COUNTY, NEVADA

A proposal to buy 777 acres of private property at Incline Lake, just east of Lake Tahoe, has received strong support from Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign and funding is likely from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act. This addition to national forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin, combined with Tahoe Meadows, Galena Creek, Relay Ridge, and the Mt. Rose Wilderness, would offer the opportunity for wonderful non-motorized winter recreation, as well as summer opportunities for hiking and camping. A small portion of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest just east of the area is still open to snowmobile use. This area needs to be closed because of intrusions into the Mt. Rose Wilderness and safety concerns.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs strongly supports the acquisition of the Incline Lake property by the Forest Service and requests that the entire complex of public lands be closed to snowmobile use and used for non-motorized recreation in both winter and summer.
