Background: Washoe County, Nevada, which is bounded on the north by Oregon and on the west by California, is engaged in much needed comprehensive study of open space. The study is looking at the southern part of the county, including Pyramid Lake, the Truckee River, the extensive ranges north of Reno, the meadows south of Reno, and many other important areas. Open space is absolutely necessary for wildlife, recreation, water resources, vegetation, cultural values, and ecotourism. This study is mainly focused on the public lands that encompass these values. The general public has been involved in a series of meetings. There is also a scientific team working on the challenges confronted. Resolution: The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs strongly supports the ongoing study of open space needs and opportunities in southern Washoe County, Nevada. next >> |
