SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO REQUIRE STUDY OF CORRIDORS FOR ENERGY TRANSMISSION LINES IN THE SOUTHWEST

Background
:

The Department of Energy has asked for public comment on two electrical transmission corridors, one in the southwest, which could affect protected areas in Nevada, Arizona, and California, including national parks and wildlife refuges. H.R. 829 has been introduced in the House by a bipartisan group to require study and analysis of the impacts of these corridors on sensitive areas, prior to designation.

Resolution:

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs strongly supports H.R. 829, and similar legislation in the Senate, to analyze impacts on the ecological and cultural values of the public lands that would be affected by designation and development of the proposed electric transmission corridors.
