Background: A spectacular and valuable wildlife area surrounds the Rogue River in southwestern Oregon. Wild salmon runs abound, and the area is a popular recreation destination. Only part of the lower Rogue watershed is protected, and the proposed logging projects are a threat to the old growth forests, the river and its tributaries. The Wild Rogue Wilderness area needs to be expanded with permanent protection. Resolution: The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs supports the addition of approximately 58,340 acres to the Wild Rogue Wilderness and the addition of 97.75 miles of Wild Rogue tributaries to the Wild and Scenic River System to better protect the resources of this area. next >> |
