RES. NO. 4: REQUIRE THAT ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES HAVE READABLE LICENSE PLATESBACKGROUND: Recreation is a valid and important reason for people to have access to and the use of public lands. We all enjoy outdoor activity and hopefully use these lands with respect. In the past few years there has been a huge increase in one type of outdoor recreational activity that has become a concern to many of us and that is All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) recreational riding on public lands. ATV use is increasing by leaps and bounds in this country and while most ATV riders are respectful of public property many are not. Some of these ATV riders ruin existing trails, destroy signs regulating activities on public lands, ride off trail up steep hills causing erosion and delight in destroying sensitive wetland areas. It is difficult for the managers of public lands to identify and control these rogue riders who wear helmets and dark glasses. All ATV vehicles should be required to have large readable license plates so that offenders can be identified and prosecuted. Readable license plates on ATVs will make all public lands safer and easier to manage. RESOLUTION: The FWOC strongly supports the requirement that all ATVs have readable license plates attached to them.
