GENERAL RESOLUTION FOR ALL FWOC MEMBERS AND
MEMBER CLUBS
1995 FWOC
Resolution
No. 1, addressed to all Clubs:
|
|
We the Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs, are appalled to recognize that the environmental laws we
have all worked so hard to implement over the last several decades are
now under vicious attack by key members of Congress.
|
Many of these laws and
regulations are in very real danger of being overturned (or made very
ineffective) during this and upcoming sessions of Congress as to offer
little or no protection to many of our unique wild lands, wild waters,
and wildlife in the western states. This unethical and
unprincipled endeavor is directly counter to previous laws that were
written to provide permanent protection for such public lands and
waters that are owned in-common by ALL OF THE CITIZENS of the U.S.!
|
|
We, the Federation, feel
that a virtual state of war on our country's public natural resources
has been declared by the anti-environment special interests in
Washington, D.C. Such efforts do NOT represent the will of the
people of this country, as many nation-wide polls has shown, only the
interests of the greedy few!
|
We call upon our member
organizations to acknowledge the imminent danger to those natural
resource values which we all hold dear, and to fully recognize that NOW is the time (especially for
those who have previously remained quiet) to become intimately and
effectively involved in the political aspects of this most serious
issue.
|
|
Now is the time to encourage our
memberships get to work at the grass roots level to individually and
collectively to communicate their opinions loudly and clearly, to their
respective members of Congress. Now
is the time to be relentless in our mutual pursuit of protection of the
environment and to reverse those losses in protection where it may have
already occurred.
|
|
Everyone who cares about
the western outdoors must get to work! We must ensure that this
small, misguided group of people in Congress who care nothing about
natural resources except for its exploitation, do not decide the fate
of our wild lands for all time to come because of our own lack of
efforts and our own silences. That would be both tragic and
shameful!
