WARD VALLEY, CALIFORNIA, NUCLEAR WASTE
REPOSITORY
1995 FWOC
Resolution
No. 11:
|
|
A radioactive nuclear
waste repository has been approved for installation in Ward Valley,
California, which is adjacent to the Mojave Natural Preserve.
This presents some risk of radioactive contamination from this
repository getting into the Colorado River and nearby wilderness
areas. This repository could threaten wildlife habitats as well
as ancient sites of indigenous native peoples.
|
California's Governor Pete
Wilson favors establishment of this Ward Valley nuclear waste site, and
he wants the Federal titles to the land transferred to the State of
California. The push for the Ward Valley nuclear waste repository
comes from the state's nuclear energy industry.
|
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs goes on record against establishing the Ward Valley
nuclear repository in California, and against the federal land title
transfer. |
