PRESERVING UTAH WILDERNESS
1995 FWOC
Resolution
No. 6:
|
|
The Utah Wilderness lands
are matchless in their beauty and grandeur, and they contain
physiographic features that are especially unique. It is
absolutely necessary that 5.7 million acres of Utah roadless areas to
be added to the national Wilderness System. Protection of these
remaining wild lands is essential to ensuring their unique biodiversity
and fragile ecosystems are maintained.
|
All lands contained in the
proposed wilderness are within the Public Domain, and thus are the
natural heritage of all United States citizens, both living and yet to
be born.
|
|
The federal steward of
these lands, the Bureau of Land Management, has failed to comply with
the National Wilderness Act of 1964 particularly those provisions
requiring identification and recommendation of suitable wilderness
within the periods specified by law.
|
Further delay in the
protection of these magnificent wildlands will hasten degradation of
their physical, biological, and aesthetic values.
|
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs goes on record in support of the immediate addition of
5.7 million acres within the state of Utah as areas of National
Wilderness in accordance with the National Wilderness act of 1964. |
