1996 FWOC
Resolution
No. 3:
CONGRESSIONAL ATTACKS ON FEDERAL RANGELANDS
|
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs reaffirms its Resolution No.6 of the Resolutions passed
at the 1995 Annual Meeting. This called for the addition of 5.7
million acres within the State of Utah as areas of National Wilderness
under the National Wilderness Act of 1964
|
The leadership of the
104th U.S. Congress has made several attempts to weaken rangeland
management on federal lands, through employing various legislative
devices, including adding rider to appropriations bills.
|
|
The latest, and most
comprehensive of such efforts, is Senate Bill 1459, and companion House
legislation. This Bill continues subsidies for grazing on public
lands by charging only token fees for such use, decreases Federal
officials' ability to manage for multiple use, grants special
privileges to stock producers that are not available to the general
public, and restricts the right of the public to participate in
decisions affecting their
rangelands.
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs is opposed to S.1459 and insists that it be withdrawn.
|
|

|
FWOC members and Member Clubs are urged to
write to their respective states' Congressional delegations, urging the
withdrawal of S.1459, along with any comments of their own on this
issue, and to send copies of their letters to President Clinton.
