FEDERATION OF WESTERN OUTDOOR CLUBS

RESOLUTION #21: THANKS TO WINCHELL HAYWARD AND THE SHASTA GROUP OF THE MOTHER LODE CHAPTER OF THE SIERRA CLUB IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND SIMPSON COLLEGE, FOR AN OUTSTANDING 69TH FWOC CONVENTION

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs thanks Winchell Hayward for, once again, working tirelessly to put together an outstanding Convention August 25-27.  He made contact with true friends of the environment in the Shasta Group of the Sierra Club in Redding, California, and kept us all on track -- not an easy task.  Winchell has been the FWOC's backbone for several decades, and we are deeply thankful for his efforts.
Thank you, too, to Brock Evans, who, despite his health problems, came up with ideas for speakers and other contacts, and Bob Haage for helping with ideas and contacts for the Convention.

Among the Redding area people who worked tirelessly to make the Convention a huge success are Dianna Thrasher and Bob and Diane Madgic.  The generosity of the Madgics in sharing their residence overlooking the Sacramento River was the perfect way to begin the Convention.  The beautiful evening is forever etched in our memories.  The large dragonflies and hummingbirds provided an unforgettable aerial performance.  Also, hikes led by Diane Madgic were the perfect ways to experience the true beauty of the Redding area.  The good snacks provided during the meeting also were most appreciated.
Thanks also go to Mrs. Emilie Hillesheim and her husband, John, for their assistance in identifying Simpson College as a Convention site and for assisting in a multitude of ways.

Simpson College administrators and students made us feel very welcome.  The new cook made us feel like maybe it's time to go back to college.  "Institutional food" may regain its good name after all!

Kudos go to Raelene Gold for editing the Hazel Wolf edition of Outdoor West.  Hazel would be proud!  We are looking forward to the next issue that will include news of the convention, articles about the resolutions that were not approved because additional information and discussion is needed, and, thanks to Shirley Cameron's work, club news.

Many thanks to Marge Sill who single-handedly typed the many (thanks to Winchell's efforts) late-arriving resolutions on a computer that "wouldn't save."  Thanks to Nancy Kroening for re-typing and editing the resolutions and for sending them and other documents out to everyone.

And, many thanks to each Executive Committee member, all of the outstanding Convention speakers, and FWOC members who are dedicated to a "CLEAN, GREEN WEST."  "Rescue and Restoration -- Visions for the 21st Century" remains our mission.

WELCOME TO MIKE MCCLOSKEY AS THE NEW PRESIDENT! AND TO BROCK EVANS AS THE WASHINGTON, D.C. REPRESENTATIVE, APPOINTED BY MIKE!
