SUPPORT FOR NEW WILDERNESS IN WHITE PINE AND LYON COUNTIES, NEVADA

The Nevada Wilderness Coalition, including the Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the Toiyabe chapter of the Sierra Club, has proposed that designation of specific, new wilderness areas be included as part of the public lands bills that Nevada senators John Ensign and Harry Reid plan to introduce during this session of Congress.  This proposal has been endorsed by the county commissions of the two counties.

These areas have outstanding wilderness values and are representative of the Great Basin ecosystem.  Local ranchers, hunters, and businesses have also supported these wilderness designations.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs strongly supports the designation of new wilderness areas in White Pine and Lyon counties, Nevada, with the stipulation that the language establishing these wilderness areas be in accordance with the provisions of the Wilderness Act of 1964.
